Being the ‘Jesus’ Among Us

Mar 26, 2026 | From Pastor Gary

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Are you Jesus? As God’s children we are called to continue Jesus’ work here on earth and follow in His footsteps.

Paul was in the biggest meeting of his life, and it had gone well. He couldn’t wait to get home and tell his wife and boss. He and his team rushed out of the office to get to the airport in time for their flight. As they were rushing to the cab, they accidentally knocked down a small produce stand. The rest of the team seemed oblivious until Paul stopped and turned to go back. They are like “Come on, we will miss our flight.” Paul told them to go on without him.

The sidewalk was covered in produce. Then he realized that the woman who owned the stand was blind. She was crying softly with tears running down her face. Paul told her everything would be okay as he got down on his hands and knees to pick up the fruits and vegetables while hundreds of people walked on by in every direction. They hurried off to wherever they were going.

When all the produce was back in the stand he organized and pulled all the damage produce and put it aside. He then asked the woman if she was okay. She nodded through the tears. Then he reached into his wallet and give her some money for the damaged produce and said that it should cover it. He then turned and began to walk away.

The woman called after him. “Mister, are you Jesus?” Paul told her he was not. She said, “I only ask because I prayed for Jesus to help me as I heard my produce falling to the ground.” Paul turned to leave again, only this time his eyes began to fill with tears.

For a long time, he wandered around looking for a taxi. After finding one, he sat in bumper to bumper traffic all the way to the airport. He had missed his flight, and because it was Friday night, all the other flights were full. Paul spent the night in a hotel by the airport. This gave him time to think. He couldn’t get the one question out of his head: When was the last time someone confused you with Jesus?

Jesus wants us to carry on with His work. How much is the sheer busyness of your life preventing you from living the life God is calling you to live? Ponder these words knowing what Jesus just did for you. He died on the cross for us and rose from the dead on Easter morning so that we have that promise of eternal life. Alleluia! Christ is risen! Happy Easter!

God’s Blessings,

Pastor Gary
